Once a formula is dispensed, the patient applies it themselves. Which is why the vehicle matters: a preparation that stings, stains or takes ten minutes to absorb is one the patient quietly stops using.

RECEIPT AND REVIEW

We read the formula before anything is weighed

The prescription is logged and the pharmacist checks it for stability, compatibility and an appropriate beyond-use date. If something won't hold in the base you asked for, you hear from us first.

WEIGHING

Every active weighed against the master record

Actives go onto a calibrated balance and are checked against the written master formulation record. High-risk actives — finasteride among them — are verified by a second pharmacist before they go anywhere near the base.

COMPOUNDING

Mixed to a documented method, then inspected

The preparation is compounded to the recorded method and inspected for uniformity, colour and consistency before it leaves the bench. Nothing is dispensed on the assumption that it came out right.

LABELLING AND CHECKS

Lot number, beyond-use date, full directions

The label carries everything the patient and any other clinician would need. The finished preparation is then verified back against the original prescription by a pharmacist who didn't compound it.

DISPENSING

Your patient is contacted, and so are you

We reach the patient to arrange pickup or shipping and counsel them on application and handling. Once it's dispensed, we confirm back to your office so nothing goes quiet on your side.

The controls behind every preparation

USP <795> non-sterile compounding

Each preparation follows a written master formulation record with documented beyond-use dating, and a compounding record is retained for every individual fill.

Texas State Board of Pharmacy licensed

We operate under TSBP §291.131, the rule governing non-sterile compounding in Texas, and are subject to Board inspection.

Traceable ingredients

Active ingredients are sourced from established suppliers including Medisca. Certificates of analysis are kept on file and lot numbers are recorded against every preparation.

Double-checked where it matters

High-risk actives are weighed under two-pharmacist verification. Hazardous ingredients are handled in a designated area with the personnel restrictions their safety data requires.

If anything needs clarifying — a strength that won't stay stable in the base you asked for, an incompatibility, a quantity that will outlast its beyond-use date — we call you first.

We contact the patient directly to arrange pickup or shipping, counsel them on application and handling, and confirm back to you once it has been dispensed.

Medical Centre Pharmacy is family-owned and sits on Medical Centre Drive in Arlington. We are small on purpose: when you call with a question about a formula, you speak to the pharmacist who prepared it — not a call centre.

Questions we get from prescribers

Usually, yes. The formulary shows what we prepare most often, not the limit of what we can do. Call the pharmacy with the formula and our pharmacist will confirm whether it is stable and compatible, what beyond-use date it would carry, and what it would cost before you write it.
Most of our standard topical preparations are ready the same day or the next business day. A formula we haven't made before, or one needing an ingredient we don't hold in stock, takes longer — we give you and the patient a realistic date when the prescription is received.
No, and neither is any compounded preparation from any pharmacy. Compounded medications are prepared for an individually identified patient under a valid prescription and are not reviewed by the FDA for safety or effectiveness. We compound them under USP <795> and Texas State Board of Pharmacy rules, using ingredients with certificates of analysis on file.
Coverage for compounded preparations varies considerably between plans, and many are dispensed on a cash basis. We tell the patient the price up front before we compound, so there are no surprises at collection. Call us and we will check a specific plan for you.
That is the point of compounding. Strengths can be raised or lowered, actives added or dropped, and bases changed for patients who react to a preservative, dye or fragrance in the commercial product. Write what you want on the prescription and we will confirm it is workable before we prepare it.
